Frequently Asked Questions About MER & Bodywork

Answers about MER, pressure, clothing, session length and when deep bodywork is unsuitable.

What is MER?

A bodywork approach combining manual touch, awareness, breathing and sometimes movement.

What does MER stand for?

Myofascial Energetic Release, an approach developed by Satyarthi Peloquin.

Is MER massage?

There are similarities, including manual soft-tissue work. MER also emphasises your experience and active participation.

Does MER hurt?

Pressure may feel intense, but pain is not the goal. We adapt the pressure and you can always pause or stop.

How long does a session last?

MER sessions are 60 or 90 minutes including conversation. Check the booking details for other sessions.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothing. Clothing and draping for MER are agreed with you. Touch of Presence is usually fully clothed.

How many sessions do I need?

There is no standard number. You can start with one session and assess whether it suits you, without committing to a series.

Can MER help with back pain?

Research on myofascial release reports promising improvements in pain and function in chronic low back pain, and many people describe relief after bodywork. New or unexplained pain still needs medical assessment.

Can MER help with stress?

Many people experience the session as calming and describe softer breathing, less tension and a stronger connection with the body. Touch, presence and breathing are adapted to what feels supportive for you.

Is MER psychotherapy?

No. MER is bodywork, not psychotherapy. Emotions and memories may be noticed with presence and respect for your pace, but a session does not replace psychological or psychiatric treatment.

Is MER medical treatment?

At Dr Feelgood Team, MER is complementary bodywork, not healthcare. This also applies to sessions with Jarek, who is additionally a physician.

What is fascia?

Connective tissue surrounding and connecting structures in the body. It contributes to support, force transmission and sensory information.

What happens after a session?

Experiences vary. Some people feel calm, others temporary soreness. Ease back into your day. Seek care for significant or persistent worsening; this should not be interpreted as a necessary healing response.

Who should not receive deep bodywork?

People with a suspected blood clot, acute injury or infection should avoid it. Anticoagulants and other conditions may require adaptation and medical advice. Read the safety section on the MER page.
