What is Myofascial Energetic Release?

MER is a bodywork approach developed by Satyarthi Peloquin. It combines slow manual contact with muscles and connective tissue, awareness, breathing and sometimes movement. You take part by describing how the pressure feels and what you need. The work is adapted to you.

What is fascia?

Fascia is living connective tissue that surrounds, connects and supports the body’s structures. It contributes to force transmission, movement and sensory information and adapts to factors including loading and activity. In MER we approach fascia as part of the body’s integrated tissue and nervous systems.

How does an MER session work?

We begin by discussing your wishes, health and boundaries. We agree on touch and the areas to work with. On the treatment table, we use slow contact and check in regularly. You can keep clothing on, change position, ask for less pressure or stop at any time. We finish with time to notice how you feel and ask questions.

What may MER help with?

Many people choose MER for perceived tension, stiffness, stress or to develop a stronger connection with their body. Research on myofascial release reports promising improvements in pain and function, particularly in chronic low back pain. MER brings this manual perspective together with breathing, movement and awareness in an individually adapted approach.

MER and the nervous system

Touch, pace, breathing and a sense of choice can influence how safe and present a person feels in their body. We therefore work slowly, follow your response and use pauses and clear agreements. The aim is to create supportive conditions for recovery and regulation at your own pace.

MER as bodywork

At our practice, MER is the main form of bodywork. Fascia-oriented manual contact is combined with body awareness, breathing and sometimes small movements. Touch and pace are agreed together, and you do not need to perform or share difficult experiences.

Body awareness and nervous system regulation

We may explore support from the surface beneath you, change position, orient to the room or notice a pleasant or neutral body sensation. These choices may support presence, safety and more flexible regulation. You set the pace and we adapt the work together.

Stress, tension and bodily experience

Stress can affect muscle activity, sleep, attention and the experience of pain. This does not make symptoms imaginary or purely psychological. In MER, we meet what you experience through touch, breathing, movement and awareness without inferring hidden causes.

How is MER bodywork different from massage?

Massage often focuses on manual work with soft tissues. MER places particular emphasis on fascia, your own experience and active participation through feedback, breathing and sometimes movement. The approaches may overlap, but consent and individual adaptation are central throughout our sessions.

What does an MER session feel like?

Pressure can feel firm and sometimes intense, but strong pain is not a goal. Tell us about discomfort, tingling, numbness or anything that feels too much. Emotions can arise without needing interpretation or amplification. An emotional release is not a requirement for a meaningful session.

How long is a session?

MER sessions are available for 60 or 90 minutes, including the opening conversation and closing check-in. See prices and available appointments on the booking page.

Who should avoid deep bodywork?

Avoid deep bodywork with fever, active infection, suspected blood clot, a recent fracture or acute injury. Anticoagulants, bleeding risk, severe osteoporosis, recent surgery, pregnancy or cancer require discussion and sometimes medical advice before proceeding. New or unexplained symptoms need medical assessment. Deep pressure is not suitable for everyone.
